Henry Grady Ray went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 24, 2026. Henry was born on April 6,1943 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Andrew Lee and Katherine Ray. Henry was the fourth of seven siblings and was raised on the family farm in Geronimo.
Following his graduation from Geronimo High School, he attended Cameron Junior College in Lawton and then transferred to Oklahoma State University where he received his degree. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army after which he began his career as an educator with Lawton Public Schools. There he served as math teacher, counselor, and assistant principal retiring in 1992 as Principal of Lawton High School. He also served on the Cache School Board from 1982 to 1987. Teachers and students alike remember Mr. Ray as a great educator and administrator. Following retirement from LPS, Henry and his wife Janet ran the family grocery store in Cache, "Ken's Food Store", which they owned until 2005.
On August 26, 1979, Henry married the love of his life Janet Maloy at her parents, Ken and Joyce Maloy's house. On that day in August, he also gained a special daughter "Missy" Melissa Marian Major. Henry and Janet were together until her passing on September 11, 2017.
Henry was quiet, kind, genuine, patient and loving. He was truly a gentle man. There are many ways to describe him but overall, with each endeavor, one saw in him a humble servant's heart, ready to help, willing to give.
In 2015 this call to serve led Henry to a new adventure that became his passion, to be a devoted volunteer driver for Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma. During this time he gained his "Cancer Center Family" continuing as a volunteer until his passing. Henry was a member of the Cache United Methodist Church and Methodist Men's group.
As an avid OSU and NY Yankees fan, he consistently followed OSU and Yankees teams on his multiple TVs at home when he couldn't attend games in person.
Henry is survived by his daughter and son- in-law, Melissa and Pete Dempsey of Lawton, sister Lola McCuiston, brothers Paul and wife Jo Ray, John and wife Kay Ray, David and wife Debbie Ray, Robert and wife Linda Ray, sister- in-law Karol and husband Wayne Haney and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends. He loved being a Grand-Paw to Pistol Pete Jr (PJ) and Annie Oakly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet, a sister, Otha Jean Elkins, brother- in- laws, Bob McCuiston & Gene Elkins and special niece Pam Ray Wren.
